Chaïbia Talal. A world unmistakably her own.

On art, individuality and the making of a visual identity. The first issue of our series on Moroccan art, material and identity.

Cultural Capital is our editorial series on Moroccan art, material and identity, and on what brands can take from them. The first issue looks at the painter Chaïbia Talal, and at a question every brand eventually faces: where does a world of one's own begin?

Her world became her language.

Self-taught Moroccan painter Chaïbia Talal drew from memory, everyday life and imagination. Expressive figures and vivid colour gave form to a deeply personal world, one she continued to explore throughout her practice.

Born in 1929 in Chtouka, a village near El Jadida, she came to painting in the 1960s without a school behind her and kept working until her death in 2004. The world she painted was the one she knew: women, village life, faces that look straight back at you.

Where does your brand's world begin?

Chaïbia's work invites us to consider the creative potential of lived experience. For a brand, we begin with its own references: the people, places, rituals and ambitions that give it character. These become the starting points for our creative direction.

Colour sets the emotional register.

In Chaïbia's paintings, vivid colour is central to the experience of the work. We approach a brand's palette, lighting and styling with the same attention to expression: what should this world feel like, and why?

A point of view becomes visible through choices.

Look at the figures, lines and relationships within the frame. In our work, that attention becomes decisions about casting, composition, movement and language. Each choice helps a brand express a particular personality.

One identity. More than one expression.

Looking across Chaïbia's work, we can trace recurring visual relationships. For brands, we build that continuity across campaigns, photographs and social content. Each piece brings something new while belonging to a recognisable whole.

What belongs to your brand alone?

A riad's morning ritual. A designer's relationship with fabric. The personal story behind a celebration. We look for these specific details, then develop them into campaign ideas, visual narratives and content worth spending time with.

A world of your own. A direction to make it visible.

We uncover the references, stories and details that give a brand its character, and shape how that character is seen.

A note on sources

The biographical facts above follow published museum and gallery accounts of Chaïbia Talal's life. The readings of her work, and everything said here about brands, are our interpretation. She is discussed as an artist and nothing more: she did not practise branding and had no connection to this agency. Her paintings are reproduced only where rights allow, which is why this entry appears without them.
